          Abstract

          Se hicieron estudios in vitro de la digestibilidad ileal y total en cuatro lotes de harina de hojas de Morus alba y Trichanthera gigantea (H & B) Nees usadas para alimentar cerdos. Las harinas de hojas de Morus alba y Trichanthera gigantea (H & B) Nees tenían como promedio, 31,5 y 50,5% de fibra detergente neutro (FDN) y 22,19 y 21,88% de proteína bruta (Nx6,25), en base seca, respectivamente. Se encontró que la digestibilidad ileal, in vitro del N fue significativamente (P<0,001) más alta en la morera que en la tricantera (45,0 y 35,0% respectivamente). La digestibilidad fecal, in vitro de la materia orgánica fue más alta (P<0,001) en la morera que en la tricantera (65,2 y 40,0% respectivamente). Los datos de digestibilidad ileal, in vitro, estuvieron asociados con el contenido de N ligado a la pared, mientras que los de digestibilidad fecal, in vitro, se correspondieron con la producción de ácidos grasos de cadena corta (R2, 0,996; P<0,001). Estos estudios confirmaron el alto valor nutritivo de la harina de hojas de morera dada a cerdos en crecimiento. La harina de hojas de tricantera mostró un valor nutritivo evidentemente inferior en comparación con el de la morera.

          Translated abstract

          Studies were conducted mimicking mouth to ileum (in vitro, pepsin/pancreatin) and mouth to rectum (in vitro, fecal) digestibility in four batches of mulberry (Morus alba L.) and tricantera (Trichanthera gigantean (H & B) Nees) leaf meals used for feeding pigs. Mulberry and tricantera leaf meals contained on average, 31.5 and 50.5% cell wall and 22.19 and 21.88% of crude protein (Nx6.25) in dry basis, respectively. It was found that ileal, in vitro N digestibility was significantly (P<0.001) higher in mulberry meal than in tricantera meal (45.0 and 35.0% respectively). Fecal, in vitro digestibility of organic matter was higher in mulberry than in tricantera meal (65.2 and 40.0% respectively.) Data of ileal, in vitro digestibility were associated to the N linked to cell wall, whereas fecal, in vitro digestibilities were related to production of short chain fatty acids (R2, 0.996; P<0.001). These studies confirmed the high nutritive value of mulberry leaf meal given to growing pigs. Trichanthera leaf meal showed a lower nutritive value as compared to that of mulberry.
