Abstract
Small actin monomer binding proteins are essential components of the actin polymerization
machinery. Originally thought of as passive buffers that prevent polymerization of
actin monomers, recent discoveries elucidate how some actin monomer binding proteins
can promote as well as inhibit polymerization, and how they cooperate to regulate
actin assembly.
