          Abstract

Objective To compare the effects of different types of malaria infection and treatment methods on Plasmodium falciparum LDH antigen clearance in patients.

Methods According to the clinical data, 4 groups of patients were selected from the confirmed malaria patients in the MONUSCO Peacekeeping Level II hospital and level I Hospital according to the difference of their malaria infection type and treatment process, each group including 10 patients. Peripheral blood samples were collected from malaria patients 3 days, 7 days, 14 days and 21 days after the end of the course. LDH-based rapid detection kit was used to detect LDH antigen residues in patients.

Results There was no significant difference in the time of LDH to become negative between Plasmodium falciparum single infection group and mixed infection group ( P>0.05). There were significant differences in the time of LDH to become negative between two artesunate injection groups and oral Artesunate/Amodiaquine treatment group ( P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the time of LDH to become negative between two artesunate injection groups ( P>0.05).

Conclusion Different types of malaria infection had no effect on the duration of Plasmodium falciparum LDH in patients. Artesunate injection therapy can clean up the Plasmodium falciparum LDH antigen more quickly than Artesunate/Amodiaquine oral therapy.
