          Abstract

          O ensaio defende a estratégia de construção de Mapas Conceituais (MC) para a resolução de casos clínicos pela sua potencialidade de evidenciar os processos cognitivos do graduando em relação à capacidade de gerar respostas eficientes na resolução de problemas, condição essencial da competência clínica do enfermeiro. Mapas conceituais são instrumentos que podem levar a modificações na maneira de ensinar, de avaliar e de aprender. Promovem a aprendizagem significativa e, utilizá-los em toda sua potencialidade implica atribuir novos significados aos conceitos de ensino, aprendizagem e avaliação.

          Translated abstract

          The essay sustains the strategy of creating Concept Maps (CM) to solve clinical cases due to its strength to evidence the undergraduates' cognitive processes regarding their capacity to generate effective responses when solving problems, a condition that is essential to clinical competence of nurses. Concept Maps are tools that can lead to changes in the way of teaching, evaluating, and learning. In addition, they promote significant learning and using CM to their complete potentiality implies to attribute new meanings to the concepts of teaching, learning, and evaluating.

          Nursing in the era of globalisation: challenges for the 21st century

          The purpose of this paper was to reflect about issues related to the processes of globalization and the global impacts on health, pointing out some challenges for Nursing in the twenty-first century. In this sense, the author outlines the forms and trends of globalization in the contemporary world, and the drastic impacts on human health and environment. To respond to the challenges of the globalized world, some ways are indicated, among which, the strengthening of nursing discipline stands out, together with some guidelines for education, research and Nursing care, in a local and global scope.
