          Abstract

          RESUMEN Ser investigador y tener un pensamiento científico es una conducta y un modo de acción que debe gestarse desde el pregrado y debe acompañar a nuestros futuros profesionales médicos a lo largo de su trabajo. Periodos de crisis, como la actual pandemia de COVID-19, nos lleva a recapacitar sobre lo necesario de un pensamiento crítico, desde la ciencia y la importancia de la investigación científica. Sin embargo, el proceso de formación de habilidades investigativas en los estudiantes de la carrera de Medicina en Cienfuegos resulta insuficiente en correspondencia con los modos de actuación que se declaran en el modelo del profesional. Para contribuir a resolver esta problemática se elaboró una estrategia didáctica encaminada a la formación de habilidades investigativas en los estudiantes de esta carrera. Se utilizaron métodos empíricos como la observación y la encuesta. Se consideró que la propuesta contribuye a la formación de habilidades investigativas, teniendo como eje central los ciclos de Ciencias Básicas, particularmente en Medicina General Integral como disciplina rectora en el plan de estudio.

          Translated abstract

          ABSTRACT To be a researcher and to have a scientific way of thinking is a kind of behavior and a way to perform that should be created since undergraduate courses. It should accompany our future physicians all their career long. Crises periods like the one of the present Covid-19 pandemic make us re-think on the need of this way of thinking and the importance of the investigation process. The formation of investigation skills in Cienfuegos Medicine program is insufficient according to the behavior patterns that are declared in the professional profile. To contribute to solve this problem a didactic strategy was designed to develop research skills in medicine students. Theoretical and empirical methods were used with this purpose. This strategy was considered appropriate for this context and contributes to the development of research skills since it considers as its axis in the main cycles of the Medicine program. Mainly, the discipline of General Medicine was chosen for being the principal one in the curriculum.

          Medical education challenges and innovations during COVID-19 pandemic

          COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly disrupted the well-established, traditional structure of medical education. Τhe new limitations of physical presence have accelerated the development of an online learning environment, comprising both of asynchronous and synchronous distance education, and the introduction of novel ways of student assessment. At the same time, this prolonged crisis had serious implications on the lives of medical students including their psychological well-being and the impact on their academic trajectories. The new reality has, on many occasions, triggered the ‘acting up’ of medical students as frontline healthcare staff, which has been perceived by many of them as a positive learning and contributing experience, and has led to a variety of responses from the educational institutions. All things considered, the urgency for rapid and novel adaptations to the new circumstances has functioned as a springboard for remarkable innovations in medical education,including the promotion of a more “evidence-based” approach.

            Modelo metodológico para el diseño y aplicación de las estrategias curriculares en Ciencias Médicas

            Las estrategias curriculares constituyen una alternativa que puede resultar provechosa para la formación de competencias profesionales en las Ciencias Médicas en el pregrado y el posgrado. No se dispone de un modelo de estructura metodológica. OBJETIVO: elaborar y validar inicialmente una guía metodológica para el diseño y aplicación de las estrategias curriculares. MÉTODOS: se hizo una revisión de documentos curriculares, metodológicos y normativos de las diferentes carreras relacionados con el objeto de la investigación. Se realizaron sesiones de análisis y discusión con grupos de expertos (asesores de diseño curricular y asesores metodológicos, Profesores Principales del centro rector) se hizo una primera aplicación como pilotaje. RESULTADOS: se elaboró la Guía Metodológica y la propuesta de organización funcional que se presenta. CONCLUSIÓN: por las características de la propuesta metodológica elaborada, esta puede ser de utilidad en el diseño e implementación de las estrategias curriculares de las diferentes carreras de Ciencias Médicas y en el posgrado.
