          Abstract

          Translated abstract

ABSTRACT The work analyzes the theoretical guidelines of the Flipped Classroom methodology and presents as its objective the proposal of a methodology. A mixed investigation is proposed, based on the theoretical review of works that have contributed to its development, the use of analysis-synthesis methods; induction-deduction and a conceptual map is obtained that summarizes a proposal for its application and a set of characteristics that systematize its advantages and limitations. It is applied to an experimental group and it is compared with a control group in the Natural Science subject of fourth grade at the Guillermo Arosemena Colonel school. In the experimental group, the acquisition of competences by the students stands out, such as: autonomy, ability to learn to learn and development of teamwork with the application of the Spearman Correlation test; as well as better results in the teaching - learning process. Similarly, a survey is applied to the parents, proven to be reliable and valid, which allows the use of the Iadov test and the Net Promoter Score with results that show satisfaction, feasibility of application and willingness to recommend.

The evidence for 'flipping out': A systematic review of the flipped classroom in nursing education.

The flipped classroom has generated interest in higher education providing a student-centred approach to learning. This has the potential to engage nursing students in ways that address the needs of today's students and the complexity of contemporary healthcare. Calls for educational reform, particularly in healthcare programs such as nursing, highlight the need for students to problem-solve, reason and apply theory into practice. The drivers towards student-based learning have manifested in team, problem and case-based learning models. Though there has been a shift towards the flipped classroom, comparatively little is known about how it is used in nursing curricula.

Flipped Classroom Research and Trends from Different Fields of Study

This paper aims to analyse the trends and contents of flipped classroom research based on 20 articles that report on flipped learning classroom initiatives from 2013–2015. The content analysis was used as a methodology to investigate methodologies, area of studies, technology tools or online platforms, the most frequently keywords used and works cited references, impacts for students’ learning, and flipped classroom challenges. The results of the analysis were interpreted using descriptive analysis, percentages, and frequencies. This analysis found that various fields were practiced in the flipped classroom approach, and some technology tools were used as the online platform for its practice. Analysis of the impacts showed that flipped classroom brought positive impacts toward students’ learning activities such as achievement, motivation, engagement, and interaction. Several issues in this discussion become implications that can be taken into consideration for future research. Some challenges found in applying flipped classroom are needed to be addressed by future researchers, such as suitability of the flipped classroom for poor quality of video lectures and untrained instructor. This study also becomes an implication for government or policymakers to determine the flipped classroom as a contemporary model to be implemented in teaching-learning activities for higher education, even K-12 students.
