Abstract

O autor identifica o que se pode chamar hoje de "racismo", tomando como referência empírica o debate político e intelectual corrente na África do Sul, no Brasil e nos Estados Unidos. Com base neste debate, sugere uma agenda internacional mínima de combate ao racismo. O texto é estruturado sob a forma de notas. A primeira nota demarca um terreno axiológico comum ao anti-racismo; a segunda esclarece o significado do termo "racismo"; a terceira procura situar sociologicamente o racismo nos três países tomados como referência, fazendo um esforço para situar a relação entre a definição dos direitos da cidadania e a definição da nacionalidade; a quarta explora os tipos de mecanismos que produzem e reproduzem desigualdades sociais relevantes na distribuição de recursos e honra sociais; a quinta define melhor a especificidade do racismo no Brasil, enquanto a sexta, a sétima e a oitava notas discutem o movimento anti-racista hoje em dia no Brasil, Estados Unidos e África do Sul, respectivamente.

L'auteur identifie ce que l'on appelle aujourd'hui "racisme", prenant comme référence empirique le débat politique et intellectuel qui est courant en Afrique du Sud, au Brésil et aux États-Unis. À partir de ces débats, l'auteur suggère la mise en place d'un agenda international minimum de combat au racisme. Le texte est structuré sous forme de notes. La première note établit la démarcation d'un terrain axiologique commun à l'antiracisme ; la deuxième apporte des précisions sur la signification du mot "racisme" ; la troisième cherche à situer, d'un point de vue sociologique, le racisme dans ces trois pays, en s'efforçant à bien situer la relation entre la définition des droits de citoyenneté et celle de nationalité ; la quatrième explore les divers types de mécanismes qui produisent et reproduisent des importantes inégalités sociales issues de la distribution des ressources sociales et de l'honneur ; la cinquième définit mieux la spécificité du racisme au Brésil ; tandis que les sixième, septième et huitième notes analysent, respectivement, le mouvement antiraciste existant de nos jours au Brésil, aux États-Unis et en Afrique du Sud.

The author provides a contemporary definition of the term "racism", taking as empirical reference the current political and intellectual debates in South Africa, Brazil and the United States. Based on the analysis of such debates, he puts forth an international anti-racist agenda. The text is structured in the form of notes. The first note demarcates an axiological terrain common to anti-racism; the second clarifies the meaning of the term "racism"; the third discusses the sociological context of racism in the three countries taken as reference, exploring the relationship between the definition of the rights of citizenship and the definition of nationality; the fourth note examines the mechanisms that produce and reproduce important social inequalities in the distribution of resources and social status; the fifth analyzes the specific nature of racism in Brazil, while the sixth, seventh and eighth notes are an appraisal of the current anti-racism struggles in each of the three countries.
