          Abstract

          Se administró prazosin a 21 sujetos con hipertensión leve tratados con diuréticos durante lapsos de un mes a un año. Tres pacientes fueron excluidos del grupo de estudio, uno por efectos secundarios, otro por falta de cumplimiento y el tercero por cambio de domicilio. En los meses 1, 6 y 12 del tratamiento de vigilancia (control), la presión arterial disminuyó en 9 a 12 por ciento. La frecuencia del pulso no se modificó, basicamente. En consecuencia, el prazosin disminuye la presión arterial hasta por periodos de un año, con pocos signos de tolerancia, y sin modificar la frecuencia cardiaca.
