Ese artículo examina un acontecimiento poco conocido de la historia obrera de América Latina. En enero de 1936, dos reuniones celebradas en Santiago de Chile -con presencia de dirigentes obreros de varios países de América- discutieron los principales problemas que afectaban a la clase trabajadora en el continente. Los obreros reunidos en Santiago firmaron un pacto, mínimamente conocido, para hacer conciencia entre los trabajadores del continente sobre la necesidad de unirse. En México, Vicente Lombardo Toledano también realizó un llamado a la unidad obrera, colaborando activamente en promover la instalación de un Congreso Obrero Latinoamericano, con el objeto de hacer cumplir el pacto.
This article examines a little known event in the labor history of Latin America. In January 1936, two meetings held in Santiago de Chile -with the presence of several labor leaders from American countries- discussed the main problems the working class faced in the continent. The workers gathered in Santiago signed a pact, hitherto unpublished, to raise awareness among workers of the continent on the need to unite. In Mexico, Vicente Lombardo Toledano also made a call for workers' unity, collaborating actively in promoting the installation of a Latin American Labor Congress, in order to enforce the covenant.
