          Abstract

Thirty years ago Dr. Mark Coventry, one of the pioneers of arthroplasty and a mentor of mine at the Mayo Clinic, introduced The Journal of Arthroplasty (JOA). It is now my great honor to introduce Arthroplasty Today, an open-access, online journal sponsored by the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) and published by Elsevier – global provider of information solutions serving more than 30 million scientists, clinicians, information professionals, students and educators worldwide. Arthroplasty Today is a sister journal to the JOA. The purpose of Arthroplasty Today is to present material to practicing surgeons that will keep them abreast of developments in the field, prove useful in the care of patients with major joint disability, and aid in understanding the scientific foundation of this subspecialty area of orthopaedics. Our distinguished associate editors and editorial board, as well as our peer reviewers, will insure that this journal serves AAHKS members as well as the orthopaedic community as a whole. The international members of the editorial board and international reviewers provide a worldwide perspective. While the focus of Arthroplasty Today will be the case report (see editorial), we will consider varied content related to the clinical and scientific foundations of joint replacement of the hip and knee. Arthroplasty Today solicits manuscripts of the highest quality from all areas of scientific endeavor that relate to joint replacement or the treatment of its complications, including those dealing with clinical series and experience, prosthetic design, biomechanics, biomaterials, metallurgy, biologic response to arthroplasty materials in vivo and in vitro that allow unique insight into any aspect of arthroplasty. Our goal is to have an accelerated accreditation of Arthroplasty Today so that all of our open access content is not only available through Pub Med Central within a year, but also all manuscripts are retroactively indexed by Pub Med.
