          Abstract

The Vth MDMM 2012 meeting was attended by 136 participants from 21 countries and was devoted to discussions and presentations of current computational methods along with their applications in molecular modeling, the design of molecular materials, and related fields. This conference continues a tradition of alternating Polish-Czech (+American) meetings that have taken place in the Czech Republic and Poland since 2003. The MDMM 2012 meeting in Wrocław, Poland included the following sessions: advances and applications of computational methods, modeling molecular materials, modeling interactions in molecular materials, modeling biomolecules, drug design (for more details see http://www.mdmm.pl/2012/). MDMM 2012 speakers included among others J. Burda (Prague, Czech Republic), T. Cierpicki (Ann Arbor, MI, USA), T. Clark (Erlangen, Germany), P. Cysewski (Bydgoszcz, Poland) P. Dominiak (Warsaw, Poland), S. Filipek (Warsaw, Poland), J. Grembecka (Ann Arbour, MI, USA), W. Grochala (Warsaw University, Poland), J. Gu (Shanghai, China), P. Jaque ( Santiago, Chile), J. Koča (Brno, Czech Republic), J. Korchowiec (Cracow, Poland), B. Kuchta (Marseille, France), A. Lagana (Perugia, Italy), Z. Latajka (Wrocław, Poland), A. Michalak (Cracow, Poland), W. Minor (Charlottesville, VA, USA), J. S. Murray (Cleveland, OH, USA), P. Paneth (Łódź, Poland), J. Polański (Katowice, Poland), P. Politzer (New Orleans, LA, USA), N. Richards (Indianapolis, IN, USA), J. Sauer (Berlin, Germany), O. Shishkin (Kharkov, Ukraine), B. Szyja (Eindhoven, Netherlands), A. Tachibana (Kyoto, Japan), A. Toro-Labbé (Santiago, Chile), T. Wesołowski (Geneva, Switzerland), M. Yáñez (Madrid, Spain). One of the evening sessions led by Dr. R. Zaleśny and Dr. R. Góra was devoted to a workshop on computational methods to determine the electric dipole properties of molecules and their aggregates. In addition, 91 posters were presented during two afternoon poster sessions. The 19 articles published in this volume highlight the wide variety of the contributions to the conference. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the authors for their contributions.
