      Chrysobalanaceae no Nordeste Oriental do Brasil Translated title: Chrysobalanaceae in the East part of the Brazilian Northeastern

          Abstract

          Resumo Este estudo fornece descrições, chave de identificação, mapas de distribuição, ilustrações e comentários sobre as espécies de Chrysobalanaceae ocorrentes no Nordeste Oriental do Brasil, região que compreende os estados de Alagoas, Ceará, Paraíba, Pernambuco e Rio Grande do Norte. Foram encontradas 26 espécies, distribuídas em oito gêneros: Hirtella (oito spp.), Couepia (seis spp.), Leptobalanus e Parinari (três spp. cada), Licania e Moquilea (duas spp. cada) e Chrysobalanus e Microdesmia (uma espécie cada). Hirtella sprucei e Moquilea silvatica são novos registros para a área e, embora a maior parte das espécies tenha ampla distribuição, Couepia impressa, C. pernambucensis, C. rufa, Parinari littoralis, Hirtella sprucei, H. insignis e H. santosii são restritas à Mata Atlântica, sendo as duas últimas consideradas “Em perigo” de extinção.

          Translated abstract

          Abstract This study provides descriptions, identification keys, distribution maps, illustrations, and comments about the Chrysobalanaceae species occurring in the East part of the Brazilian Northeastern, which includes the states of Alagoas, Ceará, Paraíba, Pernambuco, and Rio Grande do Norte. Twenty-six species in eight genera were found: Hirtella (eight spp.), Couepia (six spp.), Leptobalanus and Parinari (both with three spp.), Licania and Moquilea (both with two species), and Chrysobalanus and Microdesmia (both with one specie). Hirtella sprucei and Moquilea silvatica are new records for the area and although most species are widely distributed, Couepia impressa, C. pernambucensis, C. rufa, Parinari littoralis, Hirtella sprucei, H. insignis and H. santosii are restricted to the Atlantic Forest, the latter two being considered as Endangered.

              Synopsis of the plants known as medicinal and poisonous in Northeast of Brazil

              The objective of this work is a survey of the species of plants and their alleged therapeutic uses which are utilized in Northeast region of Brazil. The area of this study is well known for its rich diversity of species of plants and habitats, which range from rainforest, atlantic forest, coastal dunes systems and mangroves, to dry forests and savannas. A total of 483 species belonging to 79 families along with their ethnomedicinal information have been recorded. This study aims at emphasizing the greatest importance of investigating those species of plants which have not been the subject of any pharmacological study, although their popular uses have been reported.
