          Abstract

FEMS was founded in 1986 by three of largest materials societies in Europe: the Institute of Materials (presently, the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, IOM3), UK, the German Materials Society (DGM), Germany and the French Society for Metallurgy (presently, the French Society for Metallurgy and Materials, SF2M), France. The first general assembly was held in December 1987, and since then, the Federation has grown to the 24 members. The Federation has grown not only in the number of societies but has also broadened its scope alongside the materials research evolution. EUROMAT is one of the biggest materials conferences in Europe. We are trying not only to ensure equal representation, but we also look to alternate academia with industry to ensure all views can be adequately represented.
