          Abstract

The common issues of energy services related to customers’ complaints are delays in billing, inaccurate consumption measurement, lack of breakdown information, lack of real-time billing, and energy consumption.  A questionnaire survey was conducted using face-to-face methods during the pre-installation phase to determine the customers’ awareness, acceptance, knowledge, and benefits in using smart meters. The findings show that 69.6% of the customers are aware that the use of energy-efficient appliances can save electricity. This study shows that the customers, regardless of demographic profiles and background, portrayed overall good awareness of the smart metering and smart living concept.
