            Abstract

A review of a conference, two exhibitions and a play which demonstrate the themes and arguments generated by africa95which sought to present dynamic cultural work of a continent too often portrayed as a place of famines and tyrants. If the events of africa95were clouded by the murder of an artist, they still had much to say about the ‘glorious productivity of African cultures’.
