            Abstract

The constitution and development of the nonagricultural cooperatives is one of the most novel components of the process known as Updating the Cuban Economic Model. At the same time, the contradictions inherent in its implementation from the decisive actors, and from the structural and normative processes that should give it support such as the Form of Management of Property and Work, seem to be challenging their capacity to incorporate themselves into one of the central presuppositions of the current development of the Updating, local development. This work is presented as an examination of this reality though the analysis of the functioning and effects of some cooperatives in Havana.
