The two main cooperative protocols inWLANs are the orthogonal and non-orthogonal ones. We consider this two different cooperative protocols with the amplify-andforward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF) strategies. In each case, we study the information theoretic performance. Simulation results show that the non-orthogonal cooperative protocol achieves an optimal performance than the orthogonal one. Furthermore, using space-time coding in non-orthogonal protocols provides the additional coding diversity gains in the transmission.
