            Abstract

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a very common rheumatic syndrome characterized by chronic musculoskeletal pain, accompanied by complex symptoms including sexual and reproductive disorders, urinary symptoms, depression, sleep disorders, psychological changes and irritable bowel syndrome. Sexual dysfunction (SD) is defined as the inability to participate in sexual activity satisfactorily and the prevalence reaches 40% among women. Fibromyalgia is directly related to sexual dysfunction, and the main factors responsible for the change in sexual function in these women come from pharmacological, physical and psychological changes. This study aims to verify the impact of fibromyalgia on female sexual function, its clinical and therapeutic implications according to scientific studies found in the literature over the last ten years. An integrative literature search was carried out in the LILACS, PubMed and SciELO databases, combining the words and descriptors fibromyalgia and female sexual dysfunction. The articles were selected by reading the title, abstract and full text respectively. At the end of the selection process, 13 articles were included. Studies show that fibromyalgia has a negative impact on female sexual function. Taking into account the general context of fibromyalgia disorders, especially the negative impact they have on female sexual functioning, we can emphasize the extreme importance of physiotherapy in women's health to treat such sexual dysfunctions in women with fibromyalgia, providing them with a better quality of life.
