Use of the CleanerXT/Cleaner thrombectomy device (Argon Medical Devices, Plano,Texas) has been described utilizing the placement of retrievable IVCF to prevent catastrophic embolization of macerated thrombus which could result in symptomatic pulmonary embolism as a complication to mechanical
thrombectomy in the lower extremity vasculature¹. The following describes the performance of the thrombectomy procedure using occlusive balloon placement in the IVC, and/ or, the non thrombosed section of iliac/ femoral vein to prevent embolic migration and to allow for concentration of applied lytics within the thrombus of the effected venous structure while limiting dissolution and systemic lytic exposure.
