Introducción: En los últimos años, la producción científica estudiantil ha devenido un tópico recurrente en las revistas para estudiantes de Latinoamérica. Objetivo: Caracterizar los artículos sobre producción científica del pregrado publicados en revistas científicas estudiantiles latinoamericanas en el período 2017-2021. Métodos: Análisis métrico descriptivo y transversal de 57 artículos procedentes de 21 revistas. Se evaluó el número de artículos, de autores y de citas; los índices de Price, Subramanyan y de colaboración internacional; así como se visualizaron las redes de coautoría y de coocurrencia de términos. Resultados: Los artículos alcanzaron un promedio de 2 citas y 0,7 citas corregidas. Se observaron altos índices de Price (IP = 0,7) y de Subramanyan (IS = 0,7). El índice de colaboración internacional fue de 0,07. 16 de Abril constituyó la revista más productiva (22,8 %) . El 2020 marcó un ascenso en el número de artículos. Las cartas al editor fueron las más frecuentes (40,4 %). La totalidad de las contribuciones se publicó en español. El 86 % de los autores fue pequeño productor. La COVID-19 determinó el principal foco emergente de investigación. Conclusiones: Se caracterizaron por un bajo número de citaciones y de colaboración internacional; elevados índices de Price y de Subramanyan; un predominio de las cartas al editor como tipología, del español como idioma de publicación y de Cuba como país de procedencia de los firmantes; la ausencia de autores líderes; y la influencia de la COVID-19 sobre el número de artículos y sus temáticas.

Introduction: In recent years, student scientific production has become a recurring topic in student journals in Latin America. Objective: To characterize the articles on undergraduate scientific production published in Latin American student scientific journals in the period 2017-2021. Methods: Descriptive and cross-sectional metric analysis of 57 articles from 21 journals. The number of articles, authors and citations were evaluated, as well as the Price, Subramanyan and international collaboration indexes. The networks of co-authorship and co-occurrence of terms were visualized. Results: The articles reached an average of 2 citations and 0.7 corrected citations. High Price (PI = 0.7) and Subramanyan (IS = 0.7) indexes were observed. The international collaboration index was 0.07. 16 de Abril was the most productive journal (22.8%). 2020 marked a rise in the number of articles. Letters to the editor were the most frequent (40.4%). All contributions were published in Spanish. 86% of the authors were small producers. COVID-19 determined the main emerging focus of research. Conclusions: The articles were characterized by a low number of citations and international collaboration; high Price and Subramanyan indexes; a predominance of letters to the editor as a typology, of Spanish as the language of publication, and of Cuba as the country of origin of the signatories; the absence of leading authors; and the influence of COVID-19 on the number of articles and their topics.
