            Abstract

As the norms of open science take hold, scholarly communication faces a moment of transition. Scholars must increasingly reckon with whether and where to publish research data. Publishers are grappling with how to integrate research data into their publication workflows and platforms. And professionals working in a range of fields need to know where they can publish and find the most up-to-date, verified public data to inform their decisions. How do researchers decide when and where to publish research data, and what value does open science bring to journal publishers and editors looking to build audiences and impact? How do their audiences seek to use data from and share data with peers? This poster explores data publication from multiple perspectives, including peer-reviewed journals, member publications in health care engineering, and over 200 interviews with big data researchers.
