            Dear colleagues and friends,

We are delighted to announce the launch of this new journal BIO Integration (BIOI), a peer-reviewed, open access, international journal, which is dedicated to spreading multidisciplinary views driving the advancement of modern medicine.

Scientific collaboration has been thought of as a major innovation driver in modern medical research. The long pathway from theoretical and technological innovation to clinical practice involves tremendous collaborative synergy among experts and researchers in basic and applied sciences, engineering, computing and information technologies, and biological, behavioral and medical sciences. It also entails the active involvement of entrepreneurs and investors along with leaders in industry, healthcare, and regulatory institutions.

Such collaborations are inevitably subject to challenges because interests, values, and aims often significantly differ among academia, clinicians, and industry. A cross-;disciplinary and multidirectional approach increases mutual awareness across communities. Thus, effective integration of diverse scientific disciplines, incorporating perspectives of academia, industry, and government, and rapid translation of discoveries to best clinical practices are essential to realize the potential of the next era of biomedical research.

In view of this, there is a need to build a high-quality interdisciplinary forum, and BIO Integration seeks to fill that niche. Aimed at bridging the gap between the laboratory, clinic, and biotechnology industries, BIO Integration will offer a cross-disciplinary platform devoted to communi;cating advances in the biomedical research field and offering insights into different areas of life science, in order to encourage cooperation and exchange among scientists, clinical researchers, and health care providers.

The name “BIO Integration” comes from the Chinese culture and philosophy of “harmony and cooperation”. “B” refers to biosciences which is the foundation of modern medicine; “I” refers to intelligence; “O” reflects the “circle” created through the integration of academic communities. It is the inevitable outcome of social development that new things come into being due to the integration of things. The word “integration” conveys multiple meanings. It can be the integration of different countries and races; it can be the integration of different academic circles and research fields; it can be the integration of multiple means and techno;logies, etc. We expect our scope to be dynamic and broad, but always focused on supporting the movement of biomedical science innovations from idea to practice.

The journal will be open access to respond to the rapidly evolving landscape of medical publishing; accepted papers will be freely available on the journal’s website without any access barriers. An expert Editorial Board has been established and journal articles will be comprehensively peer-;reviewed. Continuous development of the Editorial Board will ensure a balance of expertise and geographic scope. The journal will publish papers from authors around the world on topics such as clinical care, health policy, and global health across all medical and health-related disciplines.

With the launch of BIO Integration, we hope to serve involved communities by providing an open-access platform to promote communication where scientific ideas and clinical needs can be identified, collaboratively explored, and ultimately solved. Of course, just like the birth of any new entity, we are starting out small and intend to grow in such a way as to maintain innovation, quality, diversity of topics, and relevance in the published articles.

In closing, we would like to thank the authors and the Editorial Board members for putting their faith in a new journal. In particularly, we would like to thank all the editors of BIO Integration, the staff at Compuscript, and everyone who has put much effort into the launch of this new venture. They have been particularly helpful and supportive in the preparation.

We look forward to engaging with you. Thank you very much!
