            Abstract

This article explains the efforts taken in greening a patch of the barren hills in Western Ghats. The plant life on the hills is destroyed by the annual burning. Regeneration on such patches is a slow process. Various experiments carried out throughout different seasons which showed positive results. Such restored and protected patches are valuable resources of indigenous flora, forest produce and a sanctuary for wild animals.
