This article is a report on the survey and study of macro floral biodiversity of the intertidal zone along the Konkan coast with the aim to identify hotspots and promote their protection and conservation. The author has studied the floral vegetation in three zones; namely beaches, strand & dune vegetation and mangroves.
In the beach zone, density and diversity of algal cover was studied in Rocky, Sandy and mixed type of beaches. The strand and dune vegetation status, was assessed for their biodiversity by marking the ratios of area covered by vegetation the number of genera/species recorded. For mangroves, the parameters employed for their assessment were, Area covered, height and density, number of genera/species, associated mangrove density and stress imposed due to encroachment by local people.
