            Abstract

In this article, the author has assessed the faunal diversity found in the intertidal zones. A study has been made in different habitats found in various zones inside the intertidal zone in different types of beaches. The survey carried out from October 1996 to May 1997 covered over 80 beaches, some of which were visited twice in different climatic conditions. Several factors affecting the biodiversity of life were examined from seasonal changes in the oceanic conditions to geological features of rocky and sandy beaches. The abundance as well as variety of life forms are recorded in a tabular form for beaches along the coastline of Konkan from Mumbai to Goa.
