            Abstract

After meticulous study of more than 80 beaches along the Konkan coast from Mumbai to Goa, the author has outlined 18 recommendations for conservation of biodiversity. The establishment of 5 biosphere reserves and 12 area of Special Scientific Interest merits serious consideration. These recommendations encompass not only the protection of species and life sustaining processes but also the present and future lives of the interdependent local people.
