Education for development and sustainability should focus on providing future generations with access to resources while also promoting sustainable use of resources and equitable access. The current education system places too much emphasis on science and technology, often with irrelevant examples from urban contexts, leading to an illusion of the real challenges faced. To truly impact development, education should instead focus on local context, content, and problem-solving with a focus on local resources and how they can be used to address local challenges, thereby creating local livelihoods and opportunities for developing the local economy. The focus should be on rural areas and primary production, turning challenges into opportunities.
