          Abstract

          This chapter introduces the concept and history of development of on-animal sensors. It explores the different components that make up these systems and the various challenges and limitations that are faced by developers seeking to operationalize these on commercial livestock farms. The specific sensor systems that have been explored over the years are reviewed and the various applications that can be achieved by using them will be introduced.
