          Abstract

We propose determining |V_{ub}| from inclusive semileptonic B decay using combined cuts on the leptonic and hadronic invariant masses to eliminate the b->c background. Compared to a pure dilepton invariant mass cut, the uncertainty from unknown order (\Lambda_{QCD}/m_b)^3 terms in the OPE is significantly reduced and the fraction of b->u events is roughly doubled. Compared to a pure hadronic invariant mass cut, the uncertainty from the unknown light-cone distribution function of the b quark is significantly reduced. We find that |V_{ub}| can be determined with theoretical uncertainty at the 5-10% level.

Inclusive Semileptonic B and Polarized Lambda_b Decays from QCD

The differential decay spectrum \(d\Gamma/dE_e dq^2\) for the semileptonic decay of an unpolarized hadron containing a b-quark, and the decay spectrum \(d\Gamma/dE_e dq^2 d\!\cos\theta\) for polarized \(\Lambda_b\) decay are computed to second order in the \(1/m_b\) expansion. Most of the \(1/m_b^2\) corrections have a simple physical interpretation, which is discussed in detail. The implications of the results for the determination of \(V_{ub}\) are discussed. The decay spectra for semileptonic decay of hadrons containing a c-quark are also given. There is a subtlety in the use of the equations of motion at order \(1/m_b^2\) in the heavy quark expansion which is explained.

QCD Predictions for Lepton Spectra in Inclusive Heavy Flavour Decays

We derive the lepton spectrum in semileptonic beauty decays from a nonperturbative treatment of QCD; it is based on an expansion in \(1/m_Q\) with \(m_Q\) being the heavy flavour quark mass. The leading corrections arising on the \(1/m_Q\) level are completely expressed in terms of the difference in the mass of the heavy hadron and the quark. Nontrivial effects appear in \(1/m_Q^2\) terms affecting mainly the endpoint region; they are different for meson and baryon decays as well as for beauty and charm decays.
