          Abstract

          Resumen Introducción La identidad profesional en enfermería, se establece al final de la vida académica, luego de haber vivido una serie de situaciones combinadas, tanto personales como del contexto social; además del desarrollo de habilidades técnicas y de juicio crítico adquiridas en las instituciones generadoras de conocimiento. El objetivo es describir el proceso que viven los estudiantes de enfermería para aprehender la identidad profesional. Materiales y Métodos Teoría fundamentada, los participantes se reclutaron mediante la técnica de bola de nieve, se realizaron seis entrevistas semi-estructuradas en seis estudiantes de octavo semestre de Licenciatura en Enfermería. Resultados La identidad profesional se define como un proceso, cuyos insumos son las experiencias vividas, tanto personales como del contexto, que al someterse a cuatro etapas, interactivas y dadas por la proyección del estudiante, elección de una profesión, preparación académica y práctica del conocimiento, dan como resultado la aprehensión de identidad profesional en enfermería. Discusión Algunos autores refieren que enfermería posee elementos que la distinguen como disciplina profesional, las prácticas de cuidado y los conocimientos teóricos van a la par, cuanto más conocimiento y práctica tenga mejor será el cuidado que se brinde, hechos que fortalecen la identidad profesional de enfermería. Conclusiones La identidad profesional emerge como un proceso, al finalizar el mismo es cuando los estudiantes de enfermería aprehenden dicha identidad profesional, hecho contrario en otras disciplinas del área de la salud.

          Translated abstract

          Abstract Introduction Professional identity in nursing is established at the end of the academic life, after having lived a series of combined situations, both personal and social context, apart from the development of technical and critical judgment skills acquired in the knowledge-generating institutions. The aim is to describe the process that nursing students go through to perceive their professional identity. Materials and Methods Grounded theory, participants were recruited using the snowball method. Six semi-structured interviews were conducted with six undergraduate students of the eighth semester of the Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing. Results Professional identity is defined as a process, whose inputs are the lived experiences, both personal and contextual, that when subject to four interactive stages given by the student’s projection, choice of a profession, academic preparation, and knowledge practice, result in the perception of professional identity in nursing. Discussion Some authors refer that nursing has elements that distinguish it as a professional discipline, care practices, and theoretical knowledge go hand in hand, the more knowledge and practice the student has, the better the care the student will provide, facts that strengthen the professional identity of nursing. Conclusions Professional identity arises as a process, at the end of which is when nursing students perceive it, as opposed to other disciplines in the health area.

          Resumo Introdução A identidade profissional do enfermeiro ocorre no final da vida acadêmica, depois de ele ter passado simultaneamente por uma série de situações diferentes tanto pessoais quanto no contexto social, além de ter desenvolvido habilidades técnicas e de análise crítica que são adquiridas nas instituições de formação. O objetivo desta pesquisa é descrever o processo que passam os estudantes de enfermagem para construírem a identidade profissional. Materiais e Métodos Teoria fundamentada - os participantes foram recrutados mediante a técnica da bola de neve, foram realizadas seis entrevistas semiestruturadas a seis estudantes do oitavo semestre do Bacharelado em Enfermagem. Resultados A identidade profissional é definida como um processo decorrente das experiências vividas no âmbito pessoal bem como as provenientes do contexto, que pressupõe que a pessoa passa por quatro etapas interativas e derivadas da projeção do estudante, da eleição de uma profissão, da formação acadêmica e da prática do conhecimento. Tudo isto dá como resultado a construção da identidade profissional do enfermeiro. Discussão Alguns autores afirmam que a enfermagem tem elementos que a identificam como uma disciplina profissional e que nela são desenvolvidas simultaneamente práticas de cuidado e conhecimentos teóricos. Quanto mais conhecimento e prática tenha o estudante, o cuidado que ele oferecerá será maior, fortalecendo a identidade profissional no enfermeiro. Conclusões A identidade profissional aparece nos estudantes de enfermagem quando termina o processo, porém, isso não é o que acontece em outras disciplinas da área da saúde.

            Predictive validity of the Macleod Clark Professional Identity Scale for undergraduate nursing students.

            The self-identification of nursing students with the profession has been linked with a successful transition, from being a student to being a professional nurse. Although there is no empirical evidence, there are suggestions that students with high professional identity are more likely to persist and complete their studies in their chosen profession. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of a professional identity scale and to determine the relationship between professional identity and student retention in a large group of first year nursing students. A survey design was used to examine the professional identity of first year nursing students, as measured by the Macleod Clark Professional Identity Scale (MCPIS-9). Baseline data obtained from the initial surveys were then compared with student drop-out rates 12 months later. Exploratory factor analysis of the MCPIS-9 yielded a one-component solution, accounting for 43.3% of the variance. All 9 items loaded highly on one component, ranging from 0.50 to 0.79. Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the MCPIS-9 was 0.83 and corrected item-total correlation values all scored well above the 0.3 cut-off. Students who: were females, had previous nursing-related vocational training, reported nursing as their first choice, or engaged in nursing-related paid work, had statistically significant higher professional identity scores. Using logistic regression analysis, students with high professional identity scores at baseline were more likely to be still enrolled in the nursing program at 12 months, controlling for gender, language spoken at home and engagement in nursing-related employment. These results support the psychometric properties of the MCPIS-9. Professional identity has a direct relationship with student retention in the nursing program. It is important to adequately measure professional identity in nursing students for the purpose of monitoring and identifying students who are at risk of leaving nursing programs.               LA HUMANIZACIÓN DE LA ATENCIÓN EN LOS SERVICIOS DE SALUD: UN ASUNTO DE CUIDADO

              Introducción: La tecnificación de los servicios de salud, la prioridad por la eficiencia y el control del costo, han hecho que el personal de salud anteponga aspectos administrativos, financieros y procedimentales a la prestación de un servicio de salud orientado al ser humano. Materiales y Métodos: Artículo de reflexión sobre temas relacionados con la humanización de los servicios de salud, hace una exhortación sobre la responsabilidad que todos los actores del sistema de salud tienen frente al paciente y su familia, así como su participación en la práctica de salud por medio del cuidado. Resultados: Se señalan algunos aspectos desde la ética y la integralidad que contribuyen a humanizar los servicios de salud involucrando a los profesionales, gestores de salud y usuarios. Discusión y Conclusiones: Desde la perspectiva de los usuarios existen dificultades en la atención brindada por los profesionales de salud, especialmente en su integridad, esta situación puede presentarse como consecuencia del sistema de salud, donde la persona como sujeto de derecho es cada vez más invisible.
