          Abstract

          Ovos e lagartas de Heliothis virescens (Fabricius) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) foram encontrados em frutos de tomateiro da cultivar Santa Clara, em um plantio localizado em área experimental, em Alegre-ES. Essa infestação proporcionou dano de cerca de 10%, caracterizado por perfurações de tamanhos variados na polpa de frutos com diâmetros superiores a 2 cm, variando de acordo com o estádio de desenvolvimento das lagartas. Ovos foram coletados e levados ao laboratório, onde foram mantidos à temperatura de 25±3ºC e 70±10% de umidade relativa até a eclosão. As lagartas recém-eclodidas foram individualizadas em caixa gerbox e alimentadas em fatias de frutos de tomate, onde permaneceram até a fase de pupa para sua identificação. Este é o primeiro relato da ocorrência de Heliothis virescens em frutos de tomate no Brasil.

          Translated abstract

          Eggs and caterpillars of the Heliothis virescens (Fabricius, 1781) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) were found in tomato fruits of cv. Santa Clara, in a plantation located in Alegre, Espirito Santo State, Brazil. The attack caused damage in 10% of fruits characterized by different perforation sizes in the pulp of the fruits with diameters of two or more centimeters, depending on the state of development of the caterpillars. Eggs were collected, taken to the laboratory, and kept at 25±3ºC and 70±10% of relative humidity until the larval phase. The caterpillars were individually kept in gerboxes and fed with tomato slices until the pupa phase for identification. This is the first report of the occurrence of Heliothis virescens in tomato fruits in Brazil.
