          Abstract

Abetalipoproteinemia is a rare inherited disorder characterized by very low plasma levels of cholesterol and triglycerides, secondary to a dramatic decrease in apolipoprotein B-containing lipoproteins, which is induced by a mutation in the microsomal triglyceride transfer protein gene.
