Abstract

Resumo: Este artigo analisa a produção social das escolhas realizadas pelas famílias dos estudantes do ensino médio do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de São Paulo (IFSP) em relação ao ensino superior. O campo de possíveis em relação às universidades foi delimitado socialmente pelas experiências da história familiar dos estudantes. Ao almejar ultrapassar os pais, os estudantes cultivam um estilo de vida distinto da geração anterior, postergando a aquisição de bens econômicos e investindo seu tempo e dinheiro na aquisição do capital cultural em sua forma mais escolar. A pesquisa possui como metodologia a realização de entrevistas semiestruturadas com 21 jovens, selecionados a partir de um questionário aplicado a todos os estudantes do terceiro ano do ensino médio (total de 257 questionários respondidos).

Abstract: This paper analyses the social production of choices of universities made by the family of high school students of Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de São Paulo (IFSP). The field of possibilities in relation to the universities has been socially defined by the history of the students' families. Aiming to overcome their parents, the students develop a different lifestyle from the previous generation, postponing the acquisition of economic assets and investing their time and money in the acquisition of cultural capital in its academic form. The research methodology consists of 21 semi-structured interviews with students, who were chosen from the results of a survey applied with all the 257 students of 12th grade.
