Abstract

Hay ciertos acontecimientos que por su gran impacto e influencia en el presente son objeto de numerosos relatos históricos y nuevas reescrituras que demuestran nuevos aspectos o nuevas relaciones antes no desarrolladas. Por ejemplo, así sucede con la Revolución Francesa. Sin embargo, como señala Adam Schaff (1971), aunque todos los historiadores están de acuerdo en la importancia de tal acontecimiento, cada uno de ellos presenta la Revolución a su manera; difieren muchas veces en la selección y descripción de los elementos que se incluyen pero, fundamentalmente, difieren en la forma en que son explicados e interpretados. Esta variedad de lecturas plantea el problema de si existe la posibilidad de que alguno de estos relatos se instaure como relato verdadero del suceso que explica, y si ese fuera el caso, qué es lo que determina que uno sea verdadero y otro falso. Particularmente el problema aparece renovado en las filosofías de la historia que relacionan el relato histórico con el relato literario. A partir de Paul Veyne y de Hayden White, las fronteras entre la narrativa histórica y la ficcional se tornan inciertas y no está claro el criterio que permite distinguir entre el relato histórico y el ficcional. En el presente trabajo analizaremos estos interrogantes tomando en cuenta la distinción lógica entre verdad y validez, clave para iluminar la discusión entre Hayden White y Roger Chartier sobre la pretensión de verdad. Teniendo en cuenta la interpretación que desarrolló Verónica Tozzi de la obra whiteana.

Translated abstract

There are certain events that for his great impact and influence in the present are object of different historical stories and new rewritings that show new aspects or new relations. For example, this happens with the French Revolution. Nevertheless, as Adam Schaff (1971) indicates, though all the historians agree in its importance, each of them presents the Revolution according with his own view. Historians differ often in the selection and description of the elements involved but, fundamentally, they differ in the form in that are explained and interpreted. This variety of readings raises the problem of the possibility that someone of these stories is restored as true about the event that explains, and if this is the case, what determines which one is true and which one is false. Particularly the problem turns out to be renewed in the philosophies of history that relate the historical text to the literary text. From Paul Veyne and Hayden White, the borders between ficcional and historical narrative become uncertain and there is not clear the criterion that it allows to distinguish between the historical narrative and the ficcional. In this work we will analyze these questions bearing in mind the logical distinction between truth and validity, to illuminate the discussion between Hayden White and Roger Chartier about historical true. Taking into account the construal that Verónica Tozzi makes of the White's work.
