Music and Singing – Instruments of Reconciliation

Zusammenfassung

Dieser Artikel stellt die Behauptung auf, dass es zur Versöhnung zwischen Menschen eines umfassenden Ansatzes bedarf, in dem Musik und Gesang eine wichtige Rolle spielen. Der Autor zeigt einen Weg auf, wie die Anwendung von Kunstformen wie Musik, Gesang und Tanz das Herz und Denken von Menschen öffnen kann, so dass sie über Vergangenes reflektieren und einen Versöhnungsprozess in Gang bringen, damit sie für eine gemeinsame Zukunft zusammenarbeiten können. Zusätzlich zu Musik und Gesang müssen auch Anliegen wie Vergebung und (soziale) Gerechtigkeit angesprochen werden. Der Artikel umfasst biblische und missiologische Perspektiven zu Vergebung wie auch historische und zeitgenössische Ansätze zur Rolle von Musik und Gesang. Als herausragendes Beispiel ist deren Bedeutung unlängst nach dem Genozid in Ruanda angeführt.

Summary

The thesis of this article is that achieving reconciliation between human beings requires a comprehensive approach in which music and singing can play an important role. The author points the way to how the use of art forms such as music, singing and dance can open the hearts and minds of people to reflect on the past and to initiate a process of reconciliation, so that they can work towards a common future. In addition to the use of music and singing, issues such as forgiveness and (social) justice must also be addressed in their own right. The article includes some biblical and missiological perspectives on reconciliation as well as some historical and contemporary opinions on the role of music and singing, among which their recent role after the Rwandan genocide stands out.

Résumé

L’auteur de cet article plaide que pour parvenir à la réconciliation entre êtres humains, une approche globale est nécessaire, dans laquelle la musique et le chant peuvent jouer un rôle important. Il montre comment on peut utiliser des formes d’art comme la musique, le chant ou la dance pour ouvrir le cœur et l’intelligence des gens et les amener à réfléchir sur le passé et à entamer un processus de réconciliation, de sorte qu’ils puissent travailler à aller vers un futur commun. Outre la mise à contribution de la musique et du chant, les problèmes comme ceux qui sont liés au pardon et à la justice (sociale) doivent être abordés pour eux-mêmes. L’auteur indique des perspectives bibliques et missiologiques sur la réconciliation et présente des points de vue historiques et contemporains sur le rôle de la musique et du chant. Parmi d’autres, l’exemple du rôle joué par la musique et le chant après le génocide rwandais est particulièrement lumineux.
