          Abstract

          El artículo presenta los principales resultados de un estudio sobre empresas de servicios turísticos en relación a la gestión de la calidad, desde la perspectiva teórica del capital social. Desde un enfoque cualitativo y tomando la modalidad de estudio de casos múltiples, se indaga en dieciocho empresas turísticas de la ciudad de Mar del Plata el nivel en que se encuentra su cultura de la calidad, y se identifican los factores determinantes en la toma de decisión para la implementación de Sistemas de Gestión de Calidad. Los resultados evidencian que en las empresas analizadas aún no está consolidada una cultura de la calidad orientada hacia la excelencia. Además, los componentes cognitivo y estructural de su capital social están limitando el desarrollo de esta cultura. Así, el perfil cultural organizacional y de la alta dirección, se constituyen en uno de los principales factores restrictivos.

          Translated abstract

          Companies, Social Capital and Quality. A Multiple Case Study in Mar del Plata, Argentina. The paper presents the main results of a study on tourist service companies in relation to quality management, from the theoretical perspective of social capital. From a qualitative perspective, and taking the mode of multiple case studies, it is investigated in eighteen tourism companies in the city of Mar del Plata its culture of quality level, and are identified the key factors in making decision for the implementation of Quality Management Systems. The results show that the surveyed companies have not established a culture of quality oriented towards excellence. Besides, cognitive and structural components of social capital are limiting the development of this culture. Thus, the cultural and high management profile of the organizations is constituted as one of the main limiting factor
