Abstract

A partir de un estudio cualitativo sobre la incorporación de Internet en la vida cotidiana, este artículo propone una reflexión acerca de los procesos de socialización, las prácticas de consumo, y las formas de sociabilidad de los jóvenes en Internet. Por una parte, se sostiene que si se aísla su estudio de las relaciones significativas en la vida cotidiana y del consumo de otros medios de comunicación no se puede comprender el alcance y complejidad de los vínculos en la red. Por otra, se argumenta que la sociabilidad online no representa un desplazamiento de otras formas de pertenencia, sino que permite ampliar los circuitos tradicionales de encuentro y socialización.

On the basis of a qualitative study on the incorporation of the Internet into everyday life, this article proposes a reflection on the processes of socialization, the practices of consumption and the forms of sociability of young people on the Internet. On the one hand, the author maintains that it is impossible to understand the scope and complexity of links on the Internet if their study is isolated from significant relations in everyday life and the consumption of other media. On the other, she argues that online sociability does not constitute the displacement of other forms of belonging, and instead allows the expansion of the traditional circuits of encounters and socialization.
