          Abstract

          O conceito de Inteligência Emocional (IE), compreendido como a capacidade de processar informações emocionais e usá-las de maneira adaptativa, surgiu há quase três décadas. Nessa trajetória, há questionamentos sobre a existência desse construto, bem como diferentes concepções sobre a IE. O objetivo desse trabalho é examinar o cenário de pesquisas sobre o tema, em âmbito internacional, buscando melhor compreensão do atual estado de desenvolvimento da área. Para tanto, foi realizada uma análise dos artigos publicados na base de dados PsycArticles da American Psychological Associotian (APA), a partir da palavra-chave emotional intelligence, que resultou em 79 estudos. Destes, 44 atenderam aos critérios de inclusão estabelecidos. Todos os artigos encontrados referiram-se a estudos empíricos. A maioria dos estudos relacionou a IE a outros construtos ou analisou propriedades psicométricas de instrumentos destinados à sua mensuração. Novas pesquisas sobre programas de intervenção para promoção de IE e avaliação da sua eficácia são sugeridas.

          El concepto de Inteligencia Emocional (IE), entendida como la capacidad de procesar la información emocional y utilizarlos de forma adaptativa, completa veintiséis años. Dentro de este recorrido existen dudas acerca de la existencia de esta construcción, así como diferentes concepciones de la IE. El objetivo de este trabajo es examinar el escenario de investigación sobre el tema a nivel internacional, en busca de una mejor comprensión de la situación actual del desarrollo de la zona. Por lo tanto, se llevó a cabo un análisis de los artículos publicados en la base de datos PsycArticles de la American Psychological Associotian (APA) con la palabra clave inteligencia emocional que resultó en 79 estudios, de los cuales 44 cumplieron los criterios de inclusión establecidos. Todos los artículos encontrados se refieren a estudios empíricos. La mayoría de los estudios trataron de relacionar IE a otros conceptos o analizar las propiedades psicométricas de los instrumentos de medición. Una nueva investigación sobre los programas de intervención para la promoción y la evaluación de su eficacia IE se sugieren.

          Translated abstract

          The concept of emotional intelligence (EI), understood as the ability to process one's own and others' feelings and emotions and use them adaptively, has just completed twenty-six years old. Different conceptions about the construct have been proposed since then. The examination of the research scenario on the topic, in the international scope, promotes understanding of the current state of development of the area. Thus, this article is concerned with an analysis of articles published in PsycArticles database of the American Psychological Association (APA), from keyword emotional intelligence, was carried out having 44 out of 79 articles meeting the established inclusion criteria. All articles found referred to empirical studies. The majority of studies sought to relate the EI to other constructs or to examine psychometric properties of instruments to its measurement. Recent studies on intervention programmes for promoting EI and evaluation of its effectiveness are suggested.

          Inteligência: avanços nos modelos teóricos e nos instrumentos de medida

          Este artigo procura discutir alguns avanços científicos na área da avaliação da inteligência contrapondo-os às idéias que são divulgadas na mídia. Pretende-se abordar alguns mal entendidos que fazem a prática divergir da ciência. Trata-se primeiro da evolução do estudo da inteligência, especialmente na abordagem psicométrica apresentando o modelo de Cattell-Horn-Carroll (CHC). Trata-se em seguida de estudos mais recentes no sobre o construto inteligência emocional integrando achados da psicologia e da neurociência falando sobre as relações entre a cognição e a emoção.

            Boosting wisdom: distance from the self enhances wise reasoning, attitudes, and behavior.

            Although humans strive to be wise, they often fail to do so when reasoning over issues that have profound personal implications. Here we examine whether psychological distance enhances wise reasoning, attitudes and behavior under such circumstances. Two experiments demonstrate that cueing people to reason about personally meaningful issues (Study 1: Career prospects for the unemployed during an economic recession; Study 2: Anticipated societal changes associated with one's chosen candidate losing the 2008 U.S. Presidential election) from a distanced perspective enhances wise reasoning (dialecticism; intellectual humility), attitudes (cooperation-related attitude assimilation), and behavior (willingness to join a bipartisan group).

              Emotional intelligence is a second-stratum factor of intelligence: evidence from hierarchical and bifactor models.

              This article examines the status of emotional intelligence (EI) within the structure of human cognitive abilities. To evaluate whether EI is a 2nd-stratum factor of intelligence, data were fit to a series of structural models involving 3 indicators each for fluid intelligence, crystallized intelligence, quantitative reasoning, visual processing, and broad retrieval ability, as well as 2 indicators each for emotion perception, emotion understanding, and emotion management. Unidimensional, multidimensional, hierarchical, and bifactor solutions were estimated in a sample of 688 college and community college students. Results suggest adequate fit for 2 models: (a) an oblique 8-factor model (with 5 traditional cognitive ability factors and 3 EI factors) and (b) a hierarchical solution (with cognitive g at the highest level and EI representing a 2nd-stratum factor that loads onto g at λ = .80). The acceptable relative fit of the hierarchical model confirms the notion that EI is a group factor of cognitive ability, marking the expression of intelligence in the emotion domain. The discussion proposes a possible expansion of Cattell-Horn-Carroll theory to include EI as a 2nd-stratum factor of similar standing to factors such as fluid intelligence and visual processing.
