Abstract

RESUMO O processo de globalização, o surgimento de novos paradigmas tecnológicos, a crescente introdução de mecanismos de mercado nas economias e a formação de blocos regionais de comércio trouxeram profunda reestruturação produtiva entre os diversos setores da atividade humana. Essas mudanças estão forçando os formuladores de políticas a prever novas formas de intervenção nas regiões, em todos os países, para que possam enfrentar os novos desafios que o desenvolvimento regional está colocando nos dias atuais. Este trabalho procura apresentar os principais aspectos de um novo cenário mundial, caracterizado pela introdução de processos de flexibilização produtiva e pela criação de novos espaços industriais e faz um estudo de caso de reestruturação na indústria de calçados no Brasil.

ABSTRACT The process of globalization, the emergence of new technological paradigms, the increasing introduction of market mechanisms in the economies and the formation of regional trade blocs, have brought about deep productive restructuring amongst the various sectors of human activity. These changes are forcing the policy makers to envisage new ways of intervention in the regions, in all countries, so that they can face the new challenges that regional development is posing in the present days. This work attempts to present the major aspects of a new world scenery, characterized by the introduction of processes of productive flexibilization and the creation of new industrial spaces and makes a case study of restructuring in the shoe industry in Brazil.
