          Abstract

          Translated abstract

Nations have followed different routes to approach sustentability, obtaining diverse results due to differences in context. This text refers to the case of Mexico and analyzes the way in which our country has pursued that goal. First, the concept of sustentability is clarified. Then, the three approaches identified to work on that direction are characterized: environmental planning, the reform of the State, and social movement. Each country seems to develop a dominant approach. In the case of Mexico, this approach is the one of the reform of the State.
