Abstract

Resumen En este trabajo se revisan conceptualizaciones de las nociones de capital social y redes de relaciones sociales con el fin de especificar lo que podrían aportar al campo de investigación en estratificación y movilidad social. Se presentan algunas versiones del concepto de capital social y algunas hipótesis del campo de las redes, como la de fuerza de los vínculos débiles y agujeros estructurales. Por otra parte, se consignan algunos de las maneras en que las investigaciones sobre clase y movilidad social han arribado a la cuestión de las redes/capital social y reconocido su pertinencia. Finalmente, se reflexiona sobre las potencialidades y desafíos de una confluencia entre análisis de clase y análisis de redes.

Abstract This article reviews conceptualizations of notions of social capital and networks of social relations to specify how they could contribute to research in the field of stratification and social mobility. We summarize classic versions of social capital and some hypotheses of social network analysis, such as the strength of weak ties and structural holes. We then discuss some of the ways in which research on class and social mobility has addressed the issue of social capital/networks and recognized their importance. Finally, we reflect on the potentialities and challenges of a confluence between analyses of class and social networks.
