Abstract

Por sus logros literarios y filosóficos, la representación establecida del romanticismo y el idealismo alemanes goza hoy de una imagen favorable, que solapa la virulencia política e ideológica que enfrentó a sus protagonistas. Schlegel, Hegel y Heine representan bien ese debate. El artículo aprovecha la distinción entre lo romántico y el romanticismo. Schlegel es el autor de la tipología del arte romántico, el arte europeo que se generó al abrigo de su cristianismo, y se fue desacralizando hasta sus condiciones modernas. El romanticismo, bien caracterizado por La escuela romántica de Heine, es la conversión de esta estética romántica en una ideología medievalizante y retardataria, en una política cultural hostil a la Ilustración alemana, que Heine critica por razones históricas, políticas y sociales, y Hegel, por razones filosóficas. En materia filosófica, el pensamiento romántico criticado por Hegel ya no es el de Schlegel sino el de Schelling.

Por causa de seus logros literários e filosóficos, a representação estabelecida do romantismo e o idealismo alemão têm uma imagem favorável que dissimula a virulência política e ideológica que enfrentou a seus protagonistas. Schlegel, Hegel e Heine representam bem esse debate. O artigo aproveita a distinção entre o assunto romântico e o romantismo. Schlegel é o autor da tipologia da arte romântica, a arte européia gerada sob a proteção do cristianismo e foi perdendo seu halo sagrado até suas condições modernas. O romantismo, muito bem caracterizado pela Escola romântica de Heine, é a conversão desta estética romântica numa ideologia medievalizante e retardatária, numa política cultural hostil à Ilustração alemã, que Heine critica por razões históricas, políticas y sociais, y Hegel, por razões filosóficas. Em matéria filosófica, o pensamento romântico criticado por Hegel já não é aquele de Schlegel, mas sim aquele de Schelling.

Given their literary and philosophical achievements, German Romanticism and German Idealism enjoy a good reputation, cove-ring up the political and ideological virulence that its main protagonists - such as Schlegel, Hegel and Heine - had to face. This article distinguishes between Romantic and Romanticism. Schlegel devised a typology of Romantic art. This European art form, which developed under the preserve of Christianity, gradually lost its sacred character as it became modern. Romanticism, well characterized by Heine`s "Romantic School," is the conversion of this Romantic aesthethic into a medievalizing and conservative ideology in the context of a political culture hostile to German Enlightenment, which was criticized by Heine for historical, political and social reasons, and by Hegel for philosophical reasons. In terms of philosophy, the Romantic thought criticized by Hegel was not that of Schlegel but that of Schelling.
