          Abstract

          Translated abstract

The present paper presents the psychometric properties of the Brazilian Psychoeducational Profile Revised (PEP-R), which evaluates the developmental age of children with autism or communication-related problems. The criterion-related validity of the developmental scale and the behavior scale was evaluated by administrating the PEP-R to 20 autistic children, 20 children with Down syndrome, and 40 children with typical development. The children's age ranged between 4 and 9 years. Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices and the Brazilian version of the Child Behavior Checklist were also administered. The correlations between the PEP-R and these instruments were .59 and .39, respectively. The inter-rater reliability (W-Kendall) varied from .80 to .87, and the internal consistency, from .80 to .97. The comparison of the total scores of the Behavioral Scale of the PEP-R in the three groups confirmed the discriminant validity of this instrument. The autistic group showed greater impairment than the other groups in the dimensions investigated.
