          Abstract

          La harina de Macrocystis pyrifera es un ingrediente comúnmente utilizado en la elaboración de dietas balanceadas para el abulón (Haliotis fulgens); sin embargo, la demanda de harina de Macrocystis como complemento alimenticio ha provocado un incremento de su precio en el mercado, resultando costosa su utilización como nutrimento en dietas balanceadas. Por esta razón, el propósito del presente trabajo es encontrar el nivel de substitución de la harina de Macrocystis del alimento balanceado para el abulón azul por un subproducto regional de menor costo, como la harina de mosto de uva. Con este fin, se elaboraron cinco dietas en las que se substituyó la harina de Macrocystis de 0% a 100%, a un máximo de 33% del total de los ingredientes. Se utilizaron 375 abulones de 15.09 ± 0.38 mm y 0.434 ± 0.03 g, distribuidos al azar en 15 cubetas de 8 L. Después de 60 días de experimentación se detectaron diferencias significativas entre las pendientes de los diferentes tratamientos tanto en talla como en peso. Dado que el incremento de la harina de mosto de uva resultó en una menor ingestión, sin afectar la eficiencia alimenticia, se establece que la harina de mosto de uva presenta un efecto negativo en la gustosidad hacia el alimento, mas no constituye un factor antinutricional. Se concluye que la harina de Macrocystis puede ser substituida por harina de mosto de uva en un 16% de la dieta total sin tener un efecto negativo en el crecimiento de los organismos.

          Translated abstract

          Kelp meal made from Macrocystis pyrifera is a common ingredient in abalone diets (Haliotis fulgens); however, a greater demand for this ingredient as feed supplement for domestic animals has led to a considerable increase in price and it has become costly to use in balanced diets. Hence, the aim of the present work is to study the possibility of replacing kelp meal in the abalone diet with a regional winery by-product. Five diets were formulated in which kelp meal was substituted from 0% to 100%, at a maximum of 33% of the total of ingredients; 375 abalone (15.09 ± 0.38 mm and 0.434 ± 0.03 g) were used, randomly distributed in fifteen 8-L plastic buckets. After 60 days of experimentation, significant differences were detected in the slopes of the different treatments for both length and weight. Since the inclusion of the winery by-product resulted in a lower feed ingestion but the feed conversion efficiency remained constant, a factor of low palatability can be attributed to the winery by-product and not an antinutritional factor. It is concluded that the winery by-product can be substituted for kelp meal in 16% of the total diet without having a negative effect on the growth of the organisms.
