Abstract

Resumen: Este trabajo presenta información acerca de las pinturas rupestres del abrigo rocoso Para Yacu 1, situado al sur de la Provincia de Santiago del Estero, Argentina. Los motivos se analizan a partir de un enfoque semiótico basado en la identificación, reconocimiento e interpretación de imágenes materiales visuales. Los resultados muestran una alta diversidad de imágenes, algunas de las cuales presentan atributos zoomorfos y antropomorfos. Este arte no es fácil de visualizar e interpretar debido a las condiciones de penumbra propias del abrigo, a su mala preservación, a no ser naturalista y a las yuxtaposiciones y superposiciones existentes. La dificultad se acentúa porque la alta diversidad de imágenes es monocromática. Se propone que su agencia consistió en generar y/o acompañar experiencias extáticas individuales o compartidas intersubjetivamente entre pocas personas. La forma de ritualidad inferida se asemeja a las detectadas en algunos sitios de la Sierra de El Alto-Ancasti, Provincia de Catamarca, Argentina.

Translated abstract

Abstract: This paper introduces information about the rock paintings of Para Yacu 1 rock shelter, south of Santiago del Estero, Argentina. Motifs are analyzed using a semiotic approach based on the identification, recognition, and interpretation of material visual images. Results show a high diversity of images, some of which include zoomorphic and anthropomorphic attributes. This art is not easy to visualize or interpret due to its poor preservation in the dim light of the rock shelter, also because it is not naturalistic, compositions are juxtaposed and overlapping, and the high diversity is monochromatic. We propose its agency to have consisted in triggering and/or accompanying ecstatic experiences, either individual or shared intersubjectively among few people. The inferred form of ritual is similar to those identified in several sites from Sierra El Alto-Ancasti.
