          Abstract

The early half of the 20th century was all about instituting filtration and disinfection throughout the United States and Canada and conquering typhoid fever and diarrheal diseases. We now face a variety of other water quality challenges – which brings us to the many papers in this issue of the Journal dealing with these challenges.
