Abstract

RESUMO Atécnica de classificação de madeira por suas características visuais e mecânicas pode melhorar o desempenho de uma estrutura, além de permitir um uso mais amplo de madeira de diferentes classes de qualidade. O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar a influência do tamanho de nó de aresta no módulo de elasticidade das madeiras de pinus ( Pinus taeda e P. elliottii) e de Eucalipto (Eucalyptus citriodora), além de definir algumas propriedades físicas e mecânicas destas madeiras. Três classes de tamanho de nó localizado na aresta da madeira foram estabelecidas. Ficou evidente que as madeiras pertencentes às maiores classes tiveram um menor módulo de elasticidade.

ABSTRACT Lumber grading through mechanical and visual characteristics may improve the performance of a structural member, and allow more aplications of woods from different quality classes. The objective of this work was to verify the influence of the size of edge knots on the modulus of elasticity of pine lumber ( Pinus taeda and P. elliottii) and eucalypt (Eucalyptus citriodora), and describe some physical and mechanical properties of these woods. Three classes of knot size located at the edge of the pieces were established. It got evident that the lumber from the greatest class, had an smaller modulus of elasticity
