          Abstract

          Translated abstract

The Movement of the Landless Rural Workers (in portuguese, MST), of Brazil, has its origin linked to the actions of Churches, mainly of Catholic Church, in its tendency denominated Liberation Theology. This theological movement was always very close of the socialist social analyses, using, a lot of times, the marxist referencial. The relations of the Catholic Church with the rural social movements were very present in Brazil and this paper presents the social/political and theological relations present in the MST, since from the first land occupations accomplished by components of the Movement, the presence of the Catholic Church is constant. Thus, focused in the relation between Church and MST, this paper analyzes how political change, with the crisis of socialism and the progress of conservatism, alter the actions of the Movement of Landless Rural Workers.

          Translated abstract
