Abstract

A área da avaliação psicológica é ampla e básica, abrangendo todos os campos da Psicologia. Durante a década de 90 do século passado, o impulso para a busca da melhoria da qualidade dos instrumentos e serviços oferecidos nesta área contou com a efetiva participação do Instituto Brasileiro de Avaliação Psicológica (IBAP) fundado na época. A produção científica, que visa resgatar diferentes técnicas e instrumentos importantes no processo de investigação e intervenção psicológica, teve um avanço significativo com a instalação de novos laboratórios dedicados à pesquisa em avaliação psicológica, instalados em diversas universidades brasileiras. Apesar da grande complexidade que envolve a mensuração de traços e de outras características psicológicas, muitos instrumentos e técnicas têm sido elaborados e normatizados, possibilitando realizar esta tarefa, efetivamente, em diferentes contextos. Desta forma, este estudo tem por objetivo apresentar uma apreciação do histórico e estado atual da avaliação psicológica no Brasil, assim como das características dos testes, recurso importante nessa tarefa.

The Psychological Assessment area is broad and basic, encompassing all fields of Psychology. During the decade of the 90s of the past century, the impulse toward the search for a betterment in the quality of the instruments and services offered in this area had the active participation of the Brazilian Institute of Psychological Assessment (IBAP), founded at that time.The scientific production, that aims at the rescue of different techniques and important instruments in the investigation process and psychological intervention, had a significant advance with the new laboratories installed in different Brazilian universities, dedicated to the research in psychological evaluation. In spite of the great complexity that involves the measuring of features and other psychological characteristics, many instruments and techniques have been elaborated and standardized, allowing the realization of this task effectively, in different contexts. Therefore, this study has the objective of presenting an appreciation of the history and of the present situation of the psychological evaluation in Brazil, as well as the characteristics of the tests, an important resource in this matter.
