Abstract

El propósito de este artículo es volver al tema de la distribución funcional del ingreso en México. Se trata de retomar esta materia y ver qué ha pasado en los últimos 30 años con la participación del trabajo en el ingreso nacional; cómo se compara con la de otros países y cuáles son las tendencias en el mundo. Este objetivo obliga a examinar la trayectoria de la economía mexicana en materia de crecimiento, generación de empleo y evolución de los salarios, y a explorar el papel que han tenido el modelo de inserción del país en el nuevo entorno global, el cambio tecnológico y las instituciones del trabajo. Son éstos elementos cruciales para entender la distribución funcional del ingreso y algunos de los factores que inciden en la desigualdad y en el potencial de crecimiento.

Translated abstract

This paper intends to revisit the functional distribution of income in Mexico. It aims at reviewing the evolution of the labor share of national income in the last 30 years. It compares its behavior with that of other countries and with recent global trends. In trying to reach this objective, an examination of the trajectory of the Mexican economy in terms of growth, job creation and wage developments is essential. The country's pattern of insertion into the new global environment, technological change and labor institutions also play a significant role. These are all central elements in trying to understand the evolution of aggregate factor income distribution and some of the issues affecting inequality and growth potential.
